See Iceland from on top of one of its special little horses. Don’t call them ponies! Don't worry if you've never been before, this tour is for beginners as well as experienced riders.
Icelandic-horses are the only type of horses in Iceland and riding the small, strong creatures is like nothing else. The Íshestar riding centre in Hafnarfjörður offers friendly horses and excellent riding paths winding their way through dramatic lava fields and along beautiful hillsides of green or white, depending on season. This tour is just as good for beginners as it is for more experienced riders.
There is great demand for Icelandic horses overseas, but they’re not small enough to fit in your suitcase. And even if they were, you’d never be able to bring them back home again. This is because of Iceland’s strict laws to protect the breed: a quick jaunt overseas to participate in a show or a race means a lifetime in exile for the poor Icelandic horse. But as mentioned above, they have fans around the globe and many are specifically bred for export. On this tour you’ll find out why!
Departures: Daily at 10.00 and 14.00. Transfers from hotels and guesthouses to the riding centre are at 8.30 and 12:45. Transfers back to hotels and guesthouses leave at 12.15 and 16:15.You can also enjoy lunch at the Jósalir restaurant at the riding centre after the Lava Tour (but this is not included in the price and must be pre-ordered).
